Ken Ziffren Addresses Diminishing Studio Profits from Blockbusters

In a talk before the Beverly Hills Bar Association recapped by Variety, Ken Ziffren ’65 spoke about the challenges movie studios face in making profits from blockbuster films. Ziffren, founding partner at Ziffren Brittenham LLP and the founder of the Ziffren Center for Media, Entertainment, Technology & Sports Law at UCLA Law, noted that strong film revenues don’t always result in profits, and that studios are increasingly challenged by online content providers such as Netflix. "What’s scary last year is if you do an analysis of all those $100-million-and-up pictures, two to one of them didn’t make a profit," he said.
