Prospective applicants interested in environmental law at UCLA are invited to watch a recording of a live online session with current students Beth Kent and Lani Maher held on October 18, 2016. During this session, Beth and Lani provided an overview of UCLA Law, with a special focus on opportunities to pursue environmental law at UCLA.

Beth KentBeth Kent is a native Southern Californian. She studied Society and Environment at UC Berkeley. Beth is part of UCLA's Epstein Program in Public Interest Law and Policy and is focusing on environmental law. Before law school, she interned at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Marine Fisheries Service and at the Natural Resources Defense Council. During the summer after 1L, Beth externed at the California Office of the Attorney General in the Land Law Section. She took a seminar on Environmental and Regulatory Law and is currently enrolled in the Frank G. Wells Environmental Law Clinic and in Food Law and Policy. Beth is the secretary of the Environmental Law Society, an Articles Editor for the Journal of Environmental Law and Policy, and a member of the Food Law Society. She is also doing research on the Clean Air Act for environmental law professor Ann Carlson.

Lani Maher grew up on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, where Lani Mahershe interned for the Surfrider Foundation and worked with the Hawaii Youth Conservation Corps. She moved to the mainland to attend UC Berkeley, where she majored in Political Science and Conservation & Resource Studies. After college, Lani worked in the motorcycle industry for three years before attending UCLA Law. Lani is primarily interested in environmental law and has summered with the Wishtoyo Foundation's Ventura Coastkeeper Program, as well as the Center for Biological Diversity. Lani has taken a number of environmental law classes at UCLA Law so far, including the Frank G. Wells Environmental Law Clinic, Ocean and Coastal Law and Policy, and Climate Change and Energy Law. Lani is a research assistant with the Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Environment and is the President of the Environmental Law Society. She is also an Executive Articles Editor for the Journal of Law and Technology and an Articles Editor for the Journal of Environmental Law and Policy.
